Animation East is the brainchild of two enthusiastic animators based in the East who wanted the work of their peers to have greater visibility, and to provide some support for them.  Our mission statement briefly outlines our goals, but we are always open to the views of animation practitioners as to how we can best serve them, and as such our role will hopefully develop alongside the community we support.

We take an inclusive view of animation.  Most of us know that the word no longer refers to just cartoons.  But until a better word comes along we decided to stick with animation, and hope that the meaning can continue to expand to include all the disciplines, practices, techniques and genres that are associated with animation today.  So you'll see content here not just for traditional animation, but also games, motion graphics, flash and other related areas.

We are principally funded by FDMX and there is some crossover in our remit.  But because we are specific to animation, and animation is increasingly a global industry, we do look further afield than the eastern region for some our content.  At present, many animators who live in the east rely on work from London or abroad.  We want to help them to find ways to use their talents without having to go elsewhere, and to bring new work to the region to establish a creative animation industry in the east.
