Newsletter No.1

Welcome to the first Animation East Newsletter and also to our New Look website!

Membership has been rapidly increasing over the past few months to the point where we now have over 80 members. This is growing on a daily basis and as we forge more links with other relative organisations we anticipate our membership will continue to blossom.

We are currently developing ideas for physical events along with our collaborative events run with the Film and Digital Media Exchange (FDMX), so please let us know if you have any requests.

Forth-coming events include:

Manga and Anime Visual Language

Tutor: Paul Duffield www.spoonbard.com

Date: Thursday 15th January 2009

Time: 2-5pm

Venue: Norwich University College of the Arts

A half day workshop and discussion exploring themes, motifs and the visual language- how the visual language of manga can be translated into animation. This more practical, hands-on workshop based around development of ideas and theory- how to structure and build an idea/ narrative and character/s in terms of preparation for animation. During the workshop Paul will be looking at the translation of manga visual language to animation techniques used in anime, and looking at the process of generating a story for a comic which Paul argues is perfectly analogous to that of creating a storyboard.
