Animators Wanted
From Shooting People (8/10/10):
ANIMATORS WANTED
'Animated Minds' is an innovative and BAFTA award-winning series of short animated documentaries (see www.animatedminds.com). Its previous series addressing mental health combines real testimonies with animation and has been nominated for and won numerous awards, including a Mental Health Media Award.
We are looking for more animators to continue the series under the working title 'Seeking Refuge'. Using the testimonies of 10-18 year old refugees and asylum seekers living in the UK, the 3 minute animations will endeavor to explore the issues these children face and recreate them in a visually engaging way. The 'Seeking Refuge' series will act as a tool to enable both young people and adults to have a greater understanding of the experiences endured by young refugee and asylum seekers living in the UK.
The selected animators will work with the Producer/Director Andy Glynne to create 3 short animated documentary films. Each film will employ varying animation techniques, and the ability to be creative, flexible and innovative is as important as experience. A sensitivity to the subject matter is essential. We are looking for people who are interested in experimenting with form and using a variety of different techniques. However, given the need for relatively quick turn around, techniques such as stop motion would be prohibitively long.
All films will go into production in November/December 2010, and a fixed fee of between £2,500-£5,000 will be offered for what we expect to be approximately 4-6 weeks of work per 3 minute film.
To apply, we need:
(1) A full, up to date CV
(2) A link to a show reel (this may be via a website or you may wish to send it via yousendit.com)
(3) A covering letter of intent stating why you wish to work on 'Seeking Refuge'
Please send your application to amanda@mosaicfilms.com. Those selected for interview will be asked to bring a visual treatment of an animated documentary dealing with these issues. (This could include a storyboard, stills and/or animatic).
All applications need to be received by 15th October 2010. Any enquiries, in the first instance, should be made to Amanda Scott at Mosaic Films amanda@mosaicfilms.com or 020 7923 2994. If you have previously applied for work on Animated Minds, you are welcome to reapply, only please indicate this in your application and whether you were interviewed or not.
